Certificate in Basic Islamic Studies (CBIS)
INTRODUCTION
The program offers a pathway to learn the basic Islamic studies for adult students. The program consists of various disciplines such as studies of the Qur’an, prophetic tradition, Islamic theology, Islamic law and purification of the soul. The program also will introduce the basics of Islamic worldview and history of the Islamic civilization.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Participant is 17 years old and above

Basic knowledge of fardhu ‘ain and basic qur’anic literacy

Worldview of Islam: The module will explain the basic principle on the reality of God, human nature, universe and the relationship between them. The module will explore the basic key terms underlying the metaphysical element of the worldview of Islam and elucidate the context of the application of those key terms.

History of Islamic Civilization I - II: This module will explain the life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the formation of Islamic civilization and its contribution to the world.

Studies of the Qur’an I – II: This module will introduce the basic disciplines in the studies of the Qur’an, such as the position of the Qur’an as first source of knowledge and ruling in the Islamic knowledge tradition, classification of the chapters in the Qur’an and occasions of revelation of some important verses (asbāb al-nuzūl)

Studies of Hadith I – II: This module will introduce the basic disciplines in the studies of the prophetic tradition, such as the position of the Hadith as second source of knowledge and ruling in the Islamic knowledge tradition, the form of Hadith narrated to us, basic classification of the Hadith and some simple examples of the Hadith

Islamic Theology I - II: This module will introduce the basic methodology to understand the concept of God in Islam, His existence, characters, names and actions. Also, will explore the basic principle of predestination, human free will, concept of good and evil, and the nature of life in the hereafter.

Islamic Law I – III: This module will explain the general objective of the Islamic law, the basic introduction of the three branches of the Islamic law; personal, societal and state, and basic methodology to derive the legal ruling
CERTIFICATION
There will be no term examination for this program. Students will be assessed based on attendance and active class participation.
Certification will be awarded when the following requirements are fulfilled:

Completion of all 12 modules in less than 3 year period

80% attendance for each module

Compliance with the institutional requirements determined by the Board of Directors and Education Department

Full payment of the fees
LEARNING PATHWAY
Students who have passed all academic requirements in basic certificate level will be qualified to pursue Diploma in Islamic Studies (DIIS) in Al-Zuhri.
