Certificate in Basic Islamic Studies (CBIS)

INTRODUCTION

The program offers a pathway to learn the basic Islamic studies for adult students. The program consists of various disciplines such as studies of the Qur’an, prophetic tradition, Islamic theology, Islamic law and purification of the soul. The program also will introduce the basics of Islamic worldview and history of the Islamic civilization.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

  • Participant is 17 years old and above

  • Basic knowledge of fardhu ‘ain and basic qur’anic literacy

​The program is two years. The schedule will be alternate physical and virtual in the period of 6 weeks to complete a module.

​Program Curriculum Outlines


Our comprehensive program consists of 16 modules designed to provide a structured and holistic understanding of Islamic knowledge and tradition. Each module builds upon the previous, guiding learners through essential aspects of faith, practice, and history.


1. Worldview of Islam I: Introduces the foundational principles of the Islamic worldview, exploring the reality of God, human nature, and the universe, as well as the relationships between them. Key metaphysical concepts are explained in context.


2. Worldview of Islam II: A continuation of the first module, offering deeper insights into the application of Islamic worldview principles in contemporary life.


3. Purification of the Soul I: Explores the concept of “self” in Islam, the meaning of happiness, and the cardinal virtues. Learners gain an understanding of how to cultivate and attain these virtues.


4. Purification of the Soul II: Extends the study of spiritual refinement, focusing on practical methods for self-discipline and moral development.


5. Life of the Prophets I: Covers the lives of prophets mentioned in the Qur’an, from Adam to Muhammad (pbuh), highlighting the lessons and significance of their stories.


6. Life of the Prophets II: Continues the study of prophetic lives, emphasizing their relevance to faith and practice today.

 

7. Studies of the Qur’an I: Introduces Qur’anic sciences, including its role as the primary source of knowledge, classification of chapters, and occasions of revelation (asbāb al-nuzūl).

 

8. Studies of the Qur’an II: Expands on Qur’anic studies, focusing on interpretation, thematic analysis, and its application in daily life.

 

9. Studies of Hadith I: Provides an introduction to Hadith sciences, covering its role as the second source of Islamic knowledge, forms of narration, classifications, and examples.

 

10. Studies of Hadith II: Further explores Hadith methodology, authenticity, and its role in shaping Islamic law and ethics.

 

11. Islamic Theology I: Examines the concept of God in Islam, His existence, attributes, names, and actions. Topics include predestination, free will, good and evil, and the hereafter.

 

12. Islamic Theology II: Continues theological exploration, addressing advanced discussions on divine wisdom, human responsibility, and eschatology.

 

13. Islamic Law I: Introduces the objectives of Islamic law, its three branches (personal, societal, and state), and the methodology of deriving rulings.

 

14. Islamic Law II: Builds on the foundations of Islamic jurisprudence, focusing on case studies and practical applications.

 

15. History of Islamic Civilization I: Provides a historical overview of Islamic knowledge traditions, social structures, and governance from the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to the present.

 

16. History of Islamic Civilization II: Continues the study of Islamic civilization, analyzing its contributions to global culture, science, and thought.

CERTIFICATION

There will be no term examination for this program. Students will be assessed based on attendance and active class participation.

Certification will be awarded when the following requirements are fulfilled:

  • Completion of all 16 modules 

  • 80% attendance for each module

  • Compliance with the institutional requirements determined by the Board of Directors and Education Department

  • Full payment of the fees

LEARNING PATHWAY

Students who have passed all academic requirements in basic certificate level will be qualified to pursue Diploma in Islamic Studies (DIIS) in Al-Zuhri.
